Blooper Reel...

As promised, the time lapse video Chad shot from our rad night of bowling.

I feel that some background is necessary here.... Ahem.

You see, I think I'm a pretty good bowler - as evidenced by the video, you'll note that I have decent form. But for the life of me, I could not catch a break that night! No matter how hard I tried (and trust me when I tell you that I might be the most competitive person I know - except for my mom) I just couldn't get a strike. So I thought that I'd try bowling with a heavier ball - you know... give it some more oomph! Let the pins know who's boss.

So I upgraded to a 10 pound ball.

Friends, that is actually heavy.

And as you can see... I almost lost it. Literally and figuratively.

Some friends and I went bowling a few weeks ago - mostly because it's fun, but also to bid farewell to a friend... adios, Alex!

Chad Mauger (pronounced major), fellow contributor to 19 Months, caught me in a really awesome 'blooper reel' - the footage of which I'll share anon.

In the meantime you'll have to settle for a shot of me getting it right!

On Flexibility...

"The wind does not break a tree that bends."

I'm in life lesson mode... kind of perfect considering that we've had the coldest, blusteryest (yes, that's a word) spring of all time!

Or you know... of the last 4 years.

Image fffound.

So we've talked about my nerd-factor before... and I'd like to officially apologize if my sometimes dark humor offends any of you - but dictionary(dot)com's word of the day totally caught me off guard today.

Okay, not the word itself. Yin (commonly referenced as "yin and yang"... always a pair) is used often enough in the English language to not have caused me any great or special alarm when I saw it in my inbox. ...learning the official definition, however, presented something of a shock.

yin: (n) A principle in Chinese philosophy associated with negative, dark, and feminine attributes. [Yin, almost always in association with yang, means "bright" in Chinese.]

For reals, homie? Negative, dark, feminine?! Sigh.

Sometimes a girl just can't catch a break.

On Symmetry...

Symmetry from Everynone on Vimeo. Originally spotted on Design Mom.

So you've heard me talk (joke?) about my slight tendency towards OCD.... But what if I'm just extra sensitive to all things symmetrical? The human eye is, after all, drawn to symmetry as a matter of course - particularly in its search for all things beautiful.

Naturally this doesn't address my fascination with all things asymmetrical - but that's for another day.

...Even the Cool Kids Are Doing It

Seder Pesach at the White House.

Semi-related kind of cute story? So as you may know, my service at the Baha'i World Centre concludes at the end of July... and I'm at more than a loss of what to do with myself or where to settle, etc.

But this is moot. Life goes on - particularly as evidenced by the fact that I'm training a young lady who will hopefully be my replacement at the goalie of my water polo team. While she's only 14 and has never played before, she shows remarkable talent. Now if I could just get her to be a little more positive.

Tonight we were working on certain drills that seem torturous (but that's just a front)... her feeble cries of "I can't do this" were met by my quips of "Yes you can!" - to which she replied "no, Obama. I can't".

Flattery gets you everywhere; it is currency in 42 states.

Further To...

Very first Seder Pesach dinner? It was awesome! I love meeting other people's families. Especially when you realize that even though the language, culture and cuisine may be different - we're all the same.

On Community...

BBC One is killing it! I just peeped the trailer for Human Planet on Melody's blog - and I'm so glad. This looks amazing! Besides the obvious (and cool) physical/survival elements to human existence, I'm really hoping that this documentary touches on those variables that make us human - that make us, to quote the fine folks at BBC "the most remarkable species of all" - the human spirit and the human community.

Community is the topic up for discussion over at Nineteen Months this month; there are some really lovely articles up - I suggest that you check them out! And don't forget the fine photography - the theme this month is Glory.

In related news... I'm going to my first ever Seder Pesach (the traditional Jewish Passover dinner). I am really excited. I'll keep you all posted - but I'm really looking forward to a night with friends and family: to celebrating community!

On Attitude...

Courtesy Tralalere!

I think - seriously - that a positive attitude can take you almost anywhere in life. Looking at this little girl skip through this (train?) station... all while her adult counterparts just seem to schlep through is so telling to me.

When do we lose the ability to see everything as an adventure... and how do we get that back?

Queen of Carmel...

Restoration on the Shrine of the Bab in Haifa, Israel is officially complete! The golden dome of the Shrine was uncovered this morning.

According to the Mayor of Haifa, Advocate Yona Yahav, "The Shrine affects the whole set up of Haifa. It is the core and symbol of this tolerant and multi-cultural city."

Nineteen Months... On Human Rights

So some friends of mine humbled me beyond belief, recently. They asked if I would consider contributing to the Nineteen Months project.

Wait... what?! But I'm not a photographer! [No, dude. Seriously....]

You guys, they asked me to contribute as a writer. Aimee Piper - the 'thinking out loud champion of the world' (however self proclaimed!) and some actually talented writers who likely don't think the in the third person will be addressing a myriad topics throughout the rest of the Baha'i year.

Check it out.

A Call to Order...

As per usual, all of my rad musical head's up are courtesy Black*Eiffel... I really love her Music Monday series.

This video is just so SO amazing - not least because it features not a single gyrating, scantily clad woman.

Three cheers for thinking outside of the box. Or, you know... whatever.

Counting Waves...

So Israel finally changed time in a 'welcome Spring' kind of way. This means that the sun is actually still up when I get off work - and this is just really really excellent.

The prospect of awesome sunlight and the sweet little inspirational photo above makes me want to dust off my camera and take my own pictures. Gasp! I know!

And yes, it may take me 3 or 4 months to finish my roll of film. But that's part of the fun.

Spoon Me Rotten...

This has always made me wonder, before I even gave considerable thought to the production and disposal of plastic.... Is washing a dish really so hard?

This month try to be less "on the go" - not everything needs to be disposable, hmmmm.
