Blooper Reel...

As promised, the time lapse video Chad shot from our rad night of bowling.

I feel that some background is necessary here.... Ahem.

You see, I think I'm a pretty good bowler - as evidenced by the video, you'll note that I have decent form. But for the life of me, I could not catch a break that night! No matter how hard I tried (and trust me when I tell you that I might be the most competitive person I know - except for my mom) I just couldn't get a strike. So I thought that I'd try bowling with a heavier ball - you know... give it some more oomph! Let the pins know who's boss.

So I upgraded to a 10 pound ball.

Friends, that is actually heavy.

And as you can see... I almost lost it. Literally and figuratively.

Some friends and I went bowling a few weeks ago - mostly because it's fun, but also to bid farewell to a friend... adios, Alex!

So we've talked about my nerd-factor before... and I'd like to officially apologize if my sometimes dark humor offends any of you - but dictionary(dot)com's word of the day totally caught me off guard today.

Okay, not the word itself. Yin (commonly referenced as "yin and yang"... always a pair) is used often enough in the English language to not have caused me any great or special alarm when I saw it in my inbox. ...learning the official definition, however, presented something of a shock.

Ahem.

yin: (n) A principle in Chinese philosophy associated with negative, dark, and feminine attributes. [Yin, almost always in association with yang, means "bright" in Chinese.]

For reals, homie? Negative, dark, feminine?! Sigh.

So you've heard me talk (joke?) about my slight tendency towards OCD.... But what if I'm just extra sensitive to all things symmetrical? The human eye is, after all, drawn to symmetry as a matter of course - particularly in its search for all things beautiful.

Naturally this doesn't address my fascination with all things asymmetrical - but that's for another day.

Semi-related kind of cute story? So as you may know, my service at the Baha'i World Centre concludes at the end of July... and I'm at more than a loss of what to do with myself or where to settle, etc.

But this is moot. Life goes on - particularly as evidenced by the fact that I'm training a young lady who will hopefully be my replacement at the goalie of my water polo team. While she's only 14 and has never played before, she shows remarkable talent. Now if I could just get her to be a little more positive.

Tonight we were working on certain drills that seem torturous (but that's just a front)... her feeble cries of "I can't do this" were met by my quips of "Yes you can!" - to which she replied "no, Obama. I can't".

Flattery gets you everywhere; it is currency in 42 states.
